Short answer
Computerized balance testing uses a force platform to measure how much, and in which direction, your body sways while you stand in different conditions. On our BioSway system, tests such as the modified CTSIB and fall risk screening turn balance into numbers, showing which senses you rely on and how you compare with others your age. Repeat testing shows whether treatment is working.

What happens during a BioSway test?
You stand on the platform, sometimes on a foam pad, with your eyes open or closed, while the system tracks your center of pressure for a short period in each condition. Some tests ask you to shift your weight toward targets on a screen. It is quick and painless, and a therapist stays beside you throughout.
What do the results show?
The modified CTSIB compares sway with eyes open and closed, on firm and foam surfaces, revealing reliance on vision, foot sensation or the inner ear1. Fall risk and limits-of-stability tests show how steady you are and how far you can lean safely. Together they help explain symptoms and set goals.
Why do objective balance numbers matter?
They show patients, families and referring physicians where things stand and whether they are improving. Falls guidelines emphasize assessing balance and gait so treatment can be targeted2. After an injury, objective measures also document findings for your physician or attorney.
